What is Dr. Armstrong’s Philosophy of Treatment?

Dr. Armstrong’s treatment philosophy is to help an individual by:

  • Clarifying a client’s descriptions of life events, promoting a heightened awareness of current actions and reactions
  • Observing current behaviors, connecting with descriptions of personal history, thereby highlighting repetitive patterns
  • Extending connections explored in therapy to increase awareness in the moments of everyday life (mindfulness)
  • Experimenting with new behaviors to replace ineffective, undesirable behaviors
  • Providing feedback on movement toward (or away) from targeted goals

While change is neither easy nor simple, it is possible. The process of change, however, can be frustrating, confusing, exhilarating, tedious, rewarding. Therapy provides an environment for exploring aspects of one’s life that result in unhappiness AND for experimenting with different behaviors that ultimately can make a difference in the quality of life one achieves.
